A Generic Approach to Improvement 04/03/2011
The content of “A Generic Approach to Improvement” is not unique to me. Lots of change agents might describe this process--or a similar one that they use. What's unique about this article is that I have not yet written a simple "how to" for people who want to initiate change in their organization. If you click on "Article Archives" and put the word "change" into the “search" box at the top, you'll come up with dozens of articles that deal with change. That should be no surprise, since "improvement" is simply a beneficial change. Still, I imagine I'll share this article with future clients. Why? It's a kind of recipe for seeking improvement. And that's what many leaders want--a way to lead their organizations into a healthier future. Dennis Add Comment You Might Be Coachworthy if... 04/02/2011
Jeff Foxworthy's "You Might Be a Redneck if...." became popular in the 1980's, and the book came out in 1989. In one of the newspapers where I publish, I run an ad for my coaching services. I modeled the main catch-phrase after Jeff's signature phrase and his name. Combining the two, I came up with "You Might Be Coachworthy if..." This week's article identifies lots of reasons an individual might be coachworthy. Take a look--one of them might apply to you! Dennis Why Is Articulating Your Vision So Valuable? 03/27/2011
I anticipate that I will share last week's article ("Articulating Your Vision of the Improved 'You'") and this one with future clients. This step---helping clients get clear on their desired outcome---is a huge asset in their leadership development process. Take a look at "Why Is Articulating Your Vision So Valuable?" Dennis I've written several articles on articulating a vision, but never one directed at the explicit leadership development process I supply to my clients. I wanted to have such an article in my archives so that I can share it at the appropriate time with clients. You don’t need to be working on a leadership development plan for the truths of “Articulating Your Vision of the Improved ‘You’” to be applicable. Just read and apply the concepts! Dennis Hooper When 'What Is' Isn't What You Want -- Part 2 03/12/2011
I don't guarantee that this article, "What 'What Is' Isn't What You Want--Part 2," will make you giddy about a situation that is currently painful or frustrating for you. I do promise, however, that you'll have some very different perspectives, and probably healthier than what currently exists. Dennis When 'What Is' Isn't What You Want--Part 1 02/28/2011
Wouldn't life be grand if you could always have what you want? Ah, but we don't live in a fairyland world! This week's article, “When ‘What Is’ Isn’t What You Want,” introduces a process that will make it easier to tolerate that which currently upsets you. Unfortunately, this week's article merely helps you articulate what frustrates you. The resolution will come next week! Dennis Have you ever clearly known what you "should" do in a given situation, but you really didn't want to do it? By my estimation, about 80% of our population experiences this dichotomy. There's an internal battle between that portion of you that says, "Hey, get with it, 'cause you MUST do this!" and the portion of you that says, "No way! I don't HAVE TO do this, and I'm not going to!" It's tough enough when you have a strong adversarial conflict with someone "outside" of you, but when you know that such a struggle exists inside and you can't do anything about it---well, that's just downright frustrating! Today's article, “When You Know You Should, But You Don’t Want To” offers some hope that you can do something about it! If you've experienced this situation, I'd love to hear how you addressed it and what your results have been. If you've never experienced this situation, I still welcome your thoughts, questions, alternative opinions, or suggestions. Dennis What Do You Think I Should Do? (Part 3) 02/15/2011
Have you heard of "the marshmallow experiment"? A reader pointed out how similar my article last week was to the findings of this research. So, I have added one more column to this treatment of choice-making. I hope you enjoy "What Do You Think I Should Do? (Part 3)." Dennis What Do You Think I Should Do? (Part 2) 02/07/2011
This week's article, "What Do You Think I Should Do? (Part 2)," starts off where last week's ended. You can create a collaborative environment (and help a friend grow) just by answering this one simple "What should I do?" question in a slightly different way. Enjoy. Dennis What Do You Think I Shoud Do? (Part 1) 02/01/2011
This week’s article, “What Do You Think I Should Do?” describes a model I've used for about twenty years. I've just never thought to put it on paper (in any form other than a handout for a training session). This is the first of a two-part article; I apologize that I was not able to squeeze all the content into a single article. Dennis | Author:Dennis Hooper
